funny facts about bodies

1. Weighty Wonder

Jon Brower Minnoch (29 September 1941 – 10 September 1983) was an American man who, at his peak weight, was the heaviest human being ever recorded, weighing approximately 1400 lb (634 kg, 100 stone). This figure was only a close estimation, however, because his extreme size, poor health, and lack of mobility prevented use of a scale. He was discharged from the hospital after 16 months on a strict diet of 1,200 calories per day.[5] He weighed 476 lb (215 kg), having lost approximately 924 lb (419 kg) - the largest human weight loss ever documented. However, he was readmitted to the hospital just over a year later in October 1981, after his weight increased to 952 lbs (432 kg). With his underlying condition of edema being incurable and difficult to treat, the decision was made to discontinue treatment, and he died 23 months later on September 10, 1983, aged 41. At the time of his death, he weighed 798 lbs (362 kg) with a 105.3 BMI.

2. Tallest Giant

Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 – July 15, 1940) was the tallest person in history for whom there is irrefutable evidence. Wadlow is sometimes known as the Alton Giant or Giant of Illinois because he was born and grew up in Alton, Illinois. Wadlow reached 8 ft 11.1 in (2.720 m) in height and weighed 439 lb (199 kg) at his death at age 22. His great size and his continued growth in adulthood was due to hypertrophy of his pituitary gland, which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone. He showed no indication of an end to his growth even at the time of his death.

3. World's Oldest People

Jeanne Louise Calment 21 February 1875 – 4 August 1997) was a French supercentenarian who had the longest confirmed human life span in history, living to the age of 122 years, 164 days. She lived in Arles, France, for her entire life, and outlived both her daughter and grandson. She became especially well known from the age of 113, when the centenary of Vincent van Gogh's visit brought reporters to Arles. She entered the Guinness Book of Records in 1988, and on 17 October 1995 she became the oldest person ever, having surpassed the (now discounted) case of Shigechiyo Izumi of Japan. She became the last living documented person born in the 1870s when the Japanese supercentenarian Tane Ikai (born 1879) died on 12 July 1995, and was thence, from that date, more than five years older than any other living human being until her death over two years later; in total she outlived 329 undisputedly verified supercentenarians. Her life span has been thoroughly documented by scientific study, with more records having been produced to verify her age than for any other case. She is the only person confirmed to have reached 120 years of age.

Cathie Jung (born 1937) is an American Victorian dress and corset enthusiast residing in Old Mystic, Connecticut, USA, who currently holds the Guinness World Record for the smallest waist on a living person. While she is not the world's tallest woman, her legs are 132 centimetres (4 ft 4 in) long. Because her upper body is of much more typical dimensions, she is 2.21 m (7 ft 3 in) tall. She has also very large feet, size 13 (US) / 46 (EU). Pankratova was born in Volgograd, Russian SFSR, USSR. She played women's basketball at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, USA, from 1992 to 1995. She was an impact player, setting two school records which are still unbroken:

No. 1 - Single Season Total Blocked Shots, 1994–95 (75)
No. 8 - Single Season Field Goals, 1994–95 (178)

Pankratova appeared in Trafalgar Square in London on September 16, 2008 with He Pingping, then the smallest man in the world (before his death in March, 2010), to promote the 2009 edition of the Guinness World Records.[3][4] Along with her native Russian, Pankratova speaks English and some Spanish.
